FIU issues apology after football players change clothes in public

Punctuating a regrettable week for the FIU football program, coach Ron Turner apologized Friday after several of his players disrobed at a public beach on Crandon Park earlier in the day.

The football team had a workout and barbecue on Crandon Park Beach to conclude it summer conditioning program, under the supervision of the strength and conditioning staff.

Turner, in a statement, said that following the workout, ?some of our athletes went to rinse off at a designated public shower area and a few of them made a poor decision and changed their clothes in public. I want to apologize to the community and anyone who was at the beach this morning for this unfortunate incident.?

Turner said: ?We are committed to helping our student athletes grow as gentlemen while preparing them for their careers. We are looking into this incident, and if appropriate, will take disciplinary action.?

No charges were filed by police.

Earlier this week, FIU leading rusher Kedrick Rhodes was kicked off the team after being arrested for discharging a firearm on campus.

Also this week, a person claiming to be a coach on last season?s FIU staff anonymously published an e-book about the school?s 2012 football season.

The book criticized several people, including former coach Mario Cristobal and athletic director Pete Garcia.
