It?s time to hit the gym ? Do you have everything you need? It?s been a while since your last foray into the gym. Let?s check to make sure you have everything you need to make your return a successful one!
Two Weeks Of Walking
The halls of fitness history are unfortunately lined with the stories of many people who began their journey back to the fitness realm after a long layoff, only to suffer heart attack or other ailment as a result of not being ready. Please spend two weeks walking around your neighborhood before jumping back into a fitness routine. Get your cardiovascular system and lungs ready for a workout again!
Doctor?s Check-Up
If you have any questions about your health, there is nothing wrong with visiting with your physician for a quick check-up before you head back into the worlds of cardio and weight lifting. A small problem can be cured, but the bigger problems which go ignored may cause serious health issues.
iPod
A personalized music player will put your mind in the environment you enjoy, will relax you, and will help to pass the time. Mp3 players are very cheap these days ? pick one up!
Towel
Check with your gym to see the requirements for towels. Many gyms have them available, but a surprising number will actually rent them and call them required. Pack a towel or a few bucks in your pocket ? just in case.
Water
You?ll need it during your workout. Bring a bottle if the gym allows, or purchase one on premises.
New Training Outfit
You?ll look and feel better than ever with a brand new training outfit that you?re only allowed to wear on training days!
A Buddy
If you join the gym and train with a partner, then there is a good chance you will keep on making it back to the gym. However, if you train alone and often feel alone, there is also a greater chance that you will skip days and eventually take off.
?Before? Picture
Even if it is the most humbling, uncomfortable experience ever, you should take a picture of your partially clothed body before starting back at the gym. Three months down the road, when you?ve lost 15 pounds, you will be glad you have this image!
Appropriate Shoes
Clean, dry training shoes are essential. Sandals or boots are not. Dress appropriately!
Gym Lock
Times are tough and people aren?t all as honest as they should be. Lock up your valuables for peace of mind, and don?t leave valuables in your car ? ever.
Aerobics Schedule
In the old days, you could just wander into the aerobic room and jump into whatever class was rolling at the time. Today, many commercial gyms possess sophisticated registration systems that allow people to reserve slots in specialized cardio classes, many of which have their own requirements for equipment. Don?t just wing it when it comes to cardio. Visit the site or read the paperwork to make sure you arrive early, and prepared, for the aerobics experience.
