FARMINGTON - If you?re not playing interscholastic basketball for Mt. Blue (Freshmen, Junior Varsity or Varsity) you are eligible to participate in Farmington Recreation Department?s high school intramural program.
?Best of the Rest? is an opportunity for teenaged boys and girls to continue playing organized, competitive basketball at the Farmington Community Center. Each team will be comprised of a Senior or upperclassman chosen to ?draft? or select other students from a pool of registered players that attend a tryout at the Recreation Department.
While games are officiated, the pace of the action is sustained by eliminating many of the minor free throw shooting interruptions and automatically tacking on those points as play continues. Begun by Coach Fred Conlogue in 2008, this up tempo version of the game is fan friendly as fellow students and school players alike drop by to catch some of the action.
Depending on the response and level of interest indicated by available high school students, the Rec. Dept. will hold an evening of open scrimmages for prospective players in early December so captains can evaluate the talent pool. That will be followed by a player draft the following week to assemble the teams. Any students that go unselected will have their Registration Fee returned to them.
Each season four teams of up to eight players compete in a Round Robin balanced schedule that has them facing each other three times before the single elimination playoffs get underway. Games are scheduled for three time spots at the Community Center; the 7:30 Thursday night feature game of the week and a Monday and Wednesday afternoon game with tipoff at 3:00 p.m.. Currently the schedule, with Pre-season, begins in December and runs through January into
early February.
For more information contact the Farmington Recreation Department at 778-3464 or drop by the office located at the Community Center.
This is not a Mt. Blue RSD sponsored activity, but its information is being distributed through the public schools as a community service. All costs associated with this flyer are paid for by the Farmington Recreation Department.
