Vision Insurance (or so he thinks) ? The Life of Jamie

glasses

I have worn glasses since I was 8 years old.? I used to take them off and fling them around the room.?? I started wearing contacts when I was 13, and only because the lenses fell out of my glasses, thus saving me from a freshman year of glasses and braces!? Hallelujah for loose screws!

I go to the eye doctor diligently every single year.? I usually need new contacts, but my glasses and prescription have stayed the same.? This bodes well for me because I am hoping to get laser eye surgery in the next year or two (sooner if the hook up my sister has comes through!)

Where am I going with this??

Today, Jeff opened his mail and said we are all renewed for our health and dental insurance for next year (we just had open enrollment).

His exact words were- ?I just rolled everything over, but we don?t have vision.?

Me: We had vision last year

Him: no we didn?t

Me: Um- Yes we did, otherwise we would have paid 240 dollars for an eye exam and 100 dollars for contacts.

Him: It would have rolled over if we had it

Me: OR you just forgot to check the box that says vision when you checked medical and dental which are right next to it.

Him: or maybe it?s that

Me: (trying to hide eye roll)

So, this isn?t really a huge deal.? I go for my annual eye exam in December, so next year I can just wait until the following January and it won?t be an issue- BUT I feel like I might need to make a point?that point being- WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU OPT OUT OF VISION INSURANCE WHEN YOUR WIFE IS BLIND AS A BAT???

(AND Eric starts kindergarten this coming year?who?s to say that he hasn?t inherited my bad eyes?? What if he needs glasses and then I need to try and find a pediatric opthamologist?? I?m sure those are cheap!)
