Google releases its Android 4.2 update for some Nexus devices, Nokia launches its own cross-platform navigation service, YouTube's Android app can now be used as a remote for Google TV, and Microsoft's Office 365 email has been having some trouble.
- Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 Android 4.2 Updates Available to Download This morning Google released the latest version of Android 4.2 for some Nexus devices, but with a few caveats. As of this moment, the full download is only for the Nexus 7 and unlocked HSPA+ model of the Galaxy Nexus that was sold through the Play store. If you don't have either of those, you'll have to manually upgrade using the files Google has made available. [The Verge]
- Nokia Redefines Digital Map Landscape by Introducing HERE as New Brand for Its Location and Mapping Service Today Nokia announced HERE, the company's foray into digital mapping and navigation. The first HERE app will be for iOS and will include offline capabilities, voice-guided walking navigation, and public transit directions. Also in the works are an Android app along with a development kit to be made available early next year, along with an application for the forthcoming Firefox OS. [Nokia]
- Making It Easier to Watch YouTube Videos on TV The latest update to the Android YouTube app now allows you to control Google TV from within the app. You can send videos to Google TV with a single tap, and while it plays, look for what to watch next from your phone or tablet. And since both the YouTube app and Google TV are cloud-based, you can enable other devices and allow your friends to contribute to the playlist too. [YouTube Blog]
- Microsoft hit by second Office 365 email outage in five days A problem with a few of its North American data centers caused some Microsoft Office 365 customers to suffer an email outage for the second time in five days. No word on what specifically caused this outage or the previous one, but Microsoft has moved to restore service to most of those affected as early as this afternoon. [ZDNet]
- Vimeo To Launch Pay-To-View Movies In 2013 Vimeo has launched a preview of it's pay-to-view movie service with six full-length independent films now available for purchase. The full service, Vimeo Movies, is set to go live next year and will allow filmmakers to set both prices and how long customers have to view the film. [SocialTimes]
- Another Square Copycat: Bank of America Launches Mobile Payments Yesterday Bank of America announced Mobile Pay on Demand, a service that allows small businesses to accept credit card payments. Nearly identical to mobile payment service Square, Mobile Pay on Demand will come with a card reader that attaches to smartphones in addition to an application. Both the reader and the app are free?Bank of America will, however, charge 2.7% per swiped transaction. [AllThingsD]
